HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CARLSHAGA FURNITURE

PAINTED INDOOR WOODEN FURNITURE

Carlshaga's lacquered wooden furniture is made from Swedish birch. We chose birch for its beauty, renewability, and natural flexibility, as it adapts to seasonal changes. Birch is an excellent material as it is semi-hard with high elasticity and durability. The furniture is painted with environmentally friendly, water-based paint.

All wood shrinks when the air is dry and expands when it is humid. To preserve the wood’s longevity, it is essential to care for and maintain your furniture correctly. Light, temperature, and humidity can impact the appearance and size of the furniture over time.

Fine cracks between joined wooden parts may appear in wooden furniture as the material naturally moves, which is entirely normal. To minimize the risk of cracks and movement, place the furniture in an environment with a stable temperature and humidity level. Avoid direct sunlight, and ensure the entire wooden surface receives equal exposure to light to prevent color differences. For dining tables with extension leaves, insert them regularly so they age evenly with the table.

MAINTENANCE OF PAINTED FURNITURE

  • Clean painted furniture with a soft, damp cloth using only water or mild soap.
  • Always protect the furniture from sharp and hot objects, strong solvents, and moisture.
  • Wipe away liquids such as water, coffee, and wine immediately.
  • Do not place furniture near heat sources.
  • Avoid using colored candles or placing damp newspapers on the surface.
  • Do not use strong chemicals to clean the surface.
  • For heat damage or cracks, consult a professional for repair.

LINEN AS UPHOLSTERY FABRIC

We use 100% linen fabric for our chair seats. Linen is durable and environmentally friendly, requiring less water to produce compared to synthetic fabrics. Linen is a natural fiber that creates a strong fabric with excellent moisture absorption and release properties.

Proper care ensures linen ages slower than other materials, becoming more beautiful and comfortable over time. Linen is naturally antibacterial, repels dirt, and inhibits bacterial growth, making it ideal for allergy sufferers.

MAINTENANCE OF LINEN FABRIC

  • Treat stains as soon as possible. Gall soap or linseed oil soap works well for most stains.
  • Never use bleach on linen.
  • Treat stains from red wine or berries with boiling water.

LIMESTONE TABLETOPS

We use limestone from Gotland.

MAINTENANCE OF LIMESTONE

  • For cleaning, use standard yellow soap, as the stone is pre-treated and saturated with soap before delivery. Mix 1 part soap to 8 parts water.
  • For stains, place a sponge on the stain overnight and repeat if necessary.
  • For tough stains, use grease-removing dish soap or pure benzene, but re-treat the surface with soap to re-saturate the limestone.
  • Avoid salt or acidic substances like citric acid for stain removal, as they can corrode the stone.

PAINTED OUTDOOR FURNITURE IN HEARTWOOD PINE

Our outdoor furniture is made from Swedish slow-grown heartwood pine, an excellent choice for garden furniture due to its durability and availability in Swedish forests. Like birch, pine adapts to seasonal changes, shrinking in dry air and expanding in humidity. Proper maintenance is essential for extending the life of your outdoor furniture, which can be affected by light, temperature, and humidity.

MAINTENANCE OF OUTDOOR FURNITURE

  • All our furniture is produced in Sweden using modern techniques and sustainable solid Swedish timber, carefully selected for each piece.
  • Maintain Carlshaga’s garden furniture by wiping it with a soft, damp cloth and soap. Repeat several times to remove dirt, pollen, air pollution, and bird droppings. Make sure the cloth is soft to avoid scratches.
  • Winter storage: Store garden furniture under a roof, ideally in an outbuilding or similar, where they are protected from moisture and their legs stay dry. Indoor storage (at room temperature) is recommended only temporarily during maintenance.
