CARLSHAGA GARDEN CHAIR FROM CARLSHAGA
What we today call “vintage garden furniture” – wooden furniture with slats both lengthwise and heightwise, often white – spread to the archipelago’s new summer villas, and later to rural rectories and farmhouses, in the late 1800s. We recognize them from black-and-white photographs where families sit well-dressed and upright in the shade.
Around the turn of the century, nature was celebrated, and the new types of garden furniture were recommended in period magazines. Garden furniture became an integral part of social life. The models that emerged had roots in genuine craftsmanship and were made from the best pine wood. A hundred years ago, these slatted garden furniture pieces could be seen in almost every garden.
Carlshaga's newly manufactured garden furniture is made based on a historical model found at our founder Eva Hermansson’s turn-of-the-century estate in Töreboda when she moved in. Both the table, bench, and chairs have beautifully elegant lines, generous dimensions, and are overall robust, highly durable, and long-lasting.
